TITANIUM

Titanium is as hard-wearing as steel, with its being lighter than steel by 45%. In comparison with aluminum, it is %60 heavier where as it provides 2 times of durability. Provided by its resilience and resistance against acids, it is added into the structure of various alloys. With its unique sea water resistance, it is commonly used in the facilities converting sea water into fresh water, and in ship equipment parts contacting with sea water.

  • It is 20 times more durable than other alloys in terms of oxidation, condensation acid, corrosion and chemical ingredients.

  • It is available in any form (Any type such as Trunk, round, hexagon, rod, plate, sheet, wire can be welded without difficulty.)

  • It is fire-proof and stroke-resistant.

  • It has the biological compatibility and it is not toxic.

  • Price: it is closer to the prices of other high performance materials.

  • It has the suitable cryogenic properties.

TITANIUM ALLOYS-REACTIONS

Reaction With Air:
The surface of titanium metal is not affected by the air since it is coated by a thin oxide coating. TiO2 and TiN2 are formed through its burning in the air.
Ti(k) + O2(g) à TiO2(k)
2Ti(k) + N2(g) à TiN(k)
Reaction With Water:
The surface of titanium metal is not affected by water since it is coated by a thin oxide coating. However it forms titanium (IV) oxide compound.
Ti(k) + 2H2O(g) à TiO2(k) + 2H2(g)
Reaction With Halogens:
Titanium metal forms titanium (IV) halogens depending on heat levels.
Ti(k) + 2F2(g) à TiF4(k) (white)
Ti(k) + 2Cl2(g) à TiCl4(s) (colorless)
Ti(k) + 2Br2(g) à TiBr4(k) [(orange)
Ti(k) + 2I2(g) à TiI4(k) (dark brown)
Reaction With Acids:
Titanium metal reacts with hydrofluoric acid effortlessly and forms hexafluortitanit complex anion.
2Ti(k) + 12HF(aq) à 2[TiF6]3-(aq) + 3H2(g) + 6H+(aq)
Reaction With Bases:
Titanium metal does not react with alkali solutions under normal conditions.
